Home Work at Its Best

Each year, students in construction technology give their all . . . to home work.

More than 25 homes have been built for families in the region by SCTCC students in the construction technology programs.  These students do everything from the design of the home, plumbing, carpentry, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, electrical, and exterior finishing. (No gypsum panel, painting or flooring.)

They’ve specialized in period-style homes and patio homes with safe rooms. Most recently, the SCTCC construction technology students completed an accessible house that included:

High-density flooring pads for ease of movement with wheelchairs

Minimum/no-thresholds in doorways, concrete seams, and shower entry

Accessible cabinetry with removable cupboards, slide-outs, and high clearances

In partnership with city officials and developers, the students seek to create a home that is appropriate to the selected neighborhood.
