New website features
Posted 5:46 am - May 18th, 2009 inThe updated SCTCC website employs several new features to assist in your visiting experience. Here are some brief descriptions of the new features and how to use them.
Webmail, portal, search and site indexing
The top-right of every page contains the search bar and quick links that visitors may need to access at any time. These include links to the student and staff webmail and respective portals.
An A-Z index and site map are also listed, which contain links to every informational page on the website. If you know the title of a page and want to quickly find it, use the A-Z index, which lists every page in alphabetical order. The site index is helpful if you want to see the overall structure of the website and what content is available in every section.
Navigation
Navigation on the new website has changed from the old version. Content is now segmented by audience, which is linked on the first gold bar. Select an audience type to find relevant information and content. The site default is for prospective students, so current students and people looking for other information should select the appropriate audience after loading the main page.
The second, green bar contains links that change based on the audience that was selected. The current audience and link are denoted with a colored dot next to the active selection.
Front page links
The first page after selecting an audience link (the first gold bar) contains an variety of links that visitors to that section might need to quickly find content. For example, the current students page contains commonly visited links that visitors to that section often choose.
Know of a link that would be helpful on the front page of a section? E-mail webmaster@sctcc.edu with suggestions.
Breadcrumbs and Print/Share
On the top-right of every page after the section front there is a breadcrumb path and Print/Share link.
The breadcrumb is a series of links that represent the previous pages in the website's hierarchy. If you've clicked several pages into a section and want to see what other content precedes it, simply click the part of the breadcrumb you're interested in and you'll be taken directly there.
The Print/Share menu lets you print the current page or share it with others. You can e-mail the page to others or post it directly to a social networking service, like Facebook or MySpace. This is helpful if you want to refer someone directy to a page on the website without explaining how to get there.
News and Events
Below the main page's content is a green area titled News, Updates and Events. This page is open on the main section fronts, but rolled up on the interior pages. To reveal the section on interior pages, click the gold arrow or text.
The news area selects the latest three stories from our updated news area. The full news archive can be found at www.sctcc.edu/news.
The events spot displays the three events happening closest to the current date. The full events page can be found at www.sctcc.edu/events, while a graphical calendar of all events can be seen at www.sctcc.edu/calendar.
The news and events can be sorted by category in the full archive, for visitors that only want to see information of a certain type.
Have a news story or event you'd like added? E-mail the content to webmaster@sctcc.edu.
Campus links and contact information
The gold section at the bottom of every page contains contact information and links to other general campus information.
