Practical Nursing - Admissions

Nursing Program Admissions:

The Practical Nursing Program at St. Cloud Technical and Community College (SCTCC) uses a selective admissions process.  The Nursing Program application is available on-line during the Nursing Program application period.  There is no waiting list for applicants.  *Please note: the SCTCC application must be submitted prior to submitting the Nursing Program application.

Admissions Process:

  • Review the Practical Nursing Program web pages
  • View the Practical Nursing Program FAQ's and Rubric (used in ranking applicants *updated June 30th, 2010)
  • Review Degree Requirements and Prerequisites
  • Attend a Practical Nursing Information Meeting
  • Apply to SCTCC and declare a HCT/Practical Nursing Major.  The steps for applying to SCTCC can be located via the Practical Nursing Program Academic Advising link.
  • Plan which classes to take and in what order, based on your schedule, class availability and prerequisite classes.  Know your program prerequisites and which classes you need to take.  Please review the Practical Nursing Academic Advising Worksheet on the Practical Nursing Academic Advising link.
  • Registered HCT/Practical Nursing students will meet with the HCT/Practical Nursing Enrollment Specialist each semester to go over their proposed course schedule for the following semesters.

*NOTE TO ALL PRACTICAL NURSING PROGRAM APPLICANTS:  Applicants will be notified of their status through their SCTCC email account within one month after the application close date.  The Applicants with the top Rubric Scores will be required to take the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills - multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in reading, mathematics, science, and English) exam.  Applicants will be responsible for the test fee which is approximately $35.  Specific TEAS testing dates and scheduling of the TEAS exam will be announced after the open application period has closed.  The results of the TEAS exam will be combined with the PN Rubric score for ranking applicants and the top applicants will be accepted for the program for which an application was submitted.

 

Practical Nursing Program Open Application Periods:

Practical Nursing Fall Acceptance: 50 LPN Students

Fall semester 2010 start: Open application period: March 1 through March 31, each year.

Practical Nursing Spring Acceptance: 50 LPN Students

Spring semester 2011 start: Open application period: August 1 through August 31, each year.

Practical Nursing Part-Time Program Acceptance: 24 LPN Students

The next part-time class is tentatively scheduled for Fall semester 2011.  Open application period: April 1 through April 30, 2011.
