Publisher Question Libraries
most textbooks will have a companion set of instructor resources, which may include a question library. Sometimes these question libraries are provided in a standard format for import into blackboard or desire to learn, and sometimes these question libraries are provided within a quiz editing tool such as ExamView.
In order to properly import the questions into the desire to learn environment, the question library needs to be placed into a Blackboard 6 format, or into an IMS QTI format.
Most test generating programs will have an Export feature which is often located under the File menu. Within the export menu, one of these options should appear. If neither option is available -- then consult the local campus teach will trainer for further assistance.
The file should be saved into a zipped file format (.ZIP). within the zipped file folder, there should be a file titled
IMSmanifest.XML
. If the zipped folder does not have this file, the import will fail.
Using Respondus to Convert Existing Quizzes
If you have existing multiple-choice quizzes in Microsoft Word, you can use the tool
Respondus 3.5
in order to convert them into the D2L import format. You may need to reformat your Microsoft Word quiz in the following ways.
- each question must begin with a number, and if the question runs more than one line, you cannot have any additional carriage returns in the question ( let the question word wrap).
- each answer choice must begin with a letter.
- the correct answer must be preceded with an asterisk.
- each question in each answer choice must begin flush left in the document
The following is an example of a correctly formatted quiz question.
a. 56301
b. 56302
*c. 56303
