SCTCC Men's Basketball Coach

Head Men's Basketball Coach

Andrew Cone completed his third season as Head Coach of the St. Cloud Technical and Community College Men's Basketball program.  The Cyclone’s finished last season, their 2nd as a member of the NJCAA, with a record of 22-7.  This was a complete turnaround from the prior season, in which the team went from a 4-10 conference record to 10-4 and a second place finish in the MCAC South.  The Cyclone men scored 82.6 points per game this past season, hitting 7.6 3-point shots per game (17th in the NJCAA).  Defense was also a key factor in the Cyclone success, as they held opponents to 40.5% FG (16th) on the year.  The team also worked its way into the top 10 nationally in rebounding, finishing 8th in that category.

Cone joined the Cyclones after spending six seasons as an Assistant Coach for the men's basketball team at St. Cloud State University. Prior to that, he spent 2 years as a graduate assistant at his alma mater South Dakota State University.

While at SCSU, Cone helped lead the Huskies to back-to-back NSIC tournament championships in the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons.  He also helped lead them to 4 NCAA DII National Tournaments appearances and the 2009-10 team reached the NCAA Final Four.  During the 09-10 season the SCSU team recorded 29 wins, which is the most in the program’s long history. He has coached 5 NSIC All-Conference players, 2 All-Region players, two conference tournament MVP’s, and three All-Americans.

Prior to his appointment at SCSU, Cone served as a Graduate Assistant Coach for SDSU during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons, helping guide the Jackrabbits to a school record 27 wins.  He was also a part of the transition at SDSU from a Division II athletic program to a Division I program.

Coach Cone spent 5 years at SDSU as a student athlete, including a redshirt year, after graduating from Minnetonka High School in the Twin Cities area.  While playing at SDSU, he was a part of 4 NCAA tournament teams, and two conference championships. Cone was voted team captain in 2001-02, and that team finished with a record of 24-6, and claimed regular season and conference tournament titles. He played 113 games with the Jackrabbits while starting 76 of those games. In his career he shot 51 percent from the floor, and 36 percent from beyond the three-point line. His teams were 84-32, for a 74% winning percentage.

Cone earned a Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State in 2002 and a master's degree from SDSU in 2006. Andrew and his wife Stephanie live in Sartell with their two kids Calen and Cadie.
