St. Cloud Technical & Community College is among an elite group of colleges that received national accreditation for its practical nursing program.

“SCTCC is only 1 of 5 Practical Nursing schools in the state of Minnesota to achieve national accreditation by ACEN,” said Carolyn Olson, SCTCC Dean of Nursing and Health. “This initial accreditation speaks volumes to the quality of our program and is good news for our graduates and the overall healthcare of our community.”

SCTCC’s Practical Nursing Program (PN) is designed to provide learning opportunities in various settings where students work closely with physicians, registered nurses and other health care professionals in the delivery of delegated medical care. The program stresses meeting basic needs within the framework of normal growth and development throughout the life span. For graduates and LPNs seeking continuing education and career advancement, the program provides a foundation for career mobility to associate or baccalaureate professional nursing programs.

Approximately 125 students are enrolled in the PN program annually. Since 2010, PN graduates of the have earned significantly higher pass rates than the national average on the licensure exam and consistently higher pass rates than other PN graduates in Minnesota.

Finally, graduates of SCTCC’s PN program have enjoyed 100% job placement in their field since 2010.

To meet the needs of the region’s healthcare community, SCTCC also established a Part-time Practical Nursing Program that is offered every odd numbered year (2015, 2017, 2019). This part-time program is specifically designed for working adults who are interested in becoming PNs but have other responsibilities that interfere with their ability to attend the rigorous full-time day Practical Nursing Program. Classes are provided in a combination of evening, weekend and online delivery methods. The program is designed to be completed over 4 semesters and one or two summer session(s) with same curriculum as the full-time program.
