Admissions Process

  • Review the CACE Program information on the website and the Program Admissions Criteria in the CACE Student Handbook
  • Attend a CACE Information Meeting
  • Apply to SCTCC and declare a HCT/CACE Major
  • Plan which classes to take and in what order, based on your schedule, class availability and prerequisites classes.  Know your program prerequisites and which classes you need to take.  See Program Checklist.
  • Contact or meet with the HCT/CACE Enrollment Specialist each semester if you are uncertain of which classes to take or if you need help understanding if you meet the Program Criteria.

Handbook and Planners

All students in the CACE program must maintain their First Aid & CPR for Child Care certification which includes (Sudden Infant Death and Shaken Baby Syndrome) to do clinicals.  The SCTCC course is EMSC 1404 and the certification is valid for 2 years.  An equivalent course covering the material above can be taken through the Red Cross (or other nationally recognized provider) or local hospital.

The Professional Leadership Development courses must be taken in the semester as indicated in the Program Planner or it may delay your graduation from the Program (some courses are only offered during Fall semester and others may only be offered during Spring semester).

Distance Learning

After a student completes their AAS or AS degree they have the option to continue their education at Southwest Minnesota State University to obtain a 4 year degree in teaching birth thru 3rd grade.The courses are offered here at SCTCC via ITV and on-line.
