Surgical Technology - Admissions

The Surgical Technology program is very competitive and does not have a waitlist.  Fulfilling the prerequisites is not a guarantee to admission into the program.  The program uses a rubric admissions process to rank the top 24 applicants for acceptance into the program. The following information will guide you through the new process:

Admissions Process

  • Review the Surgical Technology information on the website and the Program Admissions Criteria below
  • Attend a Surgical Technology Information Meeting
  • Apply to SCTCC and declare a HCT/ Surgical Technology Major.  The steps to apply can be found via the Surgical Technology program Academic Advising link.
  • Plan which classes to take and in what order, based on your schedule, class availability and prerequisites classes.  Know your program prerequisites and which classes you need to take.  See the Surgical Technology Academic Advising Worksheet on the Surgical Technology Academic Advising link.
  • Registered HCT/Surgical Technology students meet with their advisor each semester to go over their proposed course schedule for the following semesters and to obtain their registration access code for following semesters.
  • A minnimum of a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher from the pre-admission classes is required and a GPA of 2.0 must be maintained in the general education coursework to be considered for admission.
  • Applicants may apply to Surgical Technology only after successful completion of all prerequisite classes.  You may apply if you expect to complete all of the prerequisite courses prior to the start of the program, but preference is given to students that have completed all of the prerequisite courses by the application deadline.
