Reading and Math Skills Prep are intensive 25-30 hour courses for students who wish to refresh their skills in reading or math. Students will work independently, with support, on skills needed to raise their accuplacer scores.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Who should do this?
Students who want to increase their Accuplacer Reading score or Accuplacer Math score, who are motivated, hardworking, and able to commit to all sessions of either program.

  • For the Reading Skills Prep, you must have a score off 66-77 on your Reading Accuplacer test. Data shows that these students are most likely to benefit from the course.
  • For the Math Skills Prep, you must be testing into Math 0405 AND have a Reading score of at least 36 or higher.

Why should I do it?
After successful completion of the skills prep course, you will retake the Accuplacer Test and possibly test into a higher level of Reading, Writing, or Math, saving you time and money!

Does Financial Aid cover the cost of the class?
Financial Aid is not available for the course, but it is free to eligible students. Contact us for more information. 

Does attendance count?
Yes. You must come to every class session.

Will I have to buy books for this class?
All materials for this course will be provided.

What if I don’t have a computer?
You do not need a computer to complete the boot camp. You will have access to a computer during class.

What if I don’t know how to use a computer?
It is important that you know the basics of using a computer: clicking, scrolling, basic typing, etc.
