Young adult novelist Rachel Gold will be on campus on Wednesday, April 17 to speak about her experiences and about her book, "being emily," the first young adult novel to tell the story of a transgender girl from her perspective.
"being emily" was one of the choices for this semester's book club reads. It is the Winner of the 2013 Golden Crown Literary Award in Dramatic / General Fiction; Winner of the 2013 Moonbeam Children’s Book Award in Young Adult Fiction – Mature Issues; and a Finalist for the 2013 Lambda Literary Award.
This event is hosted and presented by the SCTCC Book Club and sponsored by Campus Life.
Rachel Gold is the award-winning author of Just Girls (Bella Books 2014) and Being Emily (Bella Books 2012), the first young adult novel to tell the story of a trans girl from her perspective. She has a B.A. in English and Religious Studies from Macalester College and an MFA in Writing from Hamline University.
