Graduation FAQs

SCTCC holds commencement once per year for students who graduated in summer, fall, or spring semester.

Do I need to apply for graduation?

Application for Graduation forms are available in the Office of Records and Registration. The Online Application for Graduation is available here

Completed forms are used to enter names into the commencement program, reviewed after graduation to determine degree or diploma completion and followed up with placement information.

Application forms must be completed prior to April 15 to ensure your name placement in the commencement program.  However, students can still apply for graduation after this date and participate in the ceremony.

Are guest tickets required for commencement?

To date there hasn't been a need to issue tickets for the commencement ceremony. However, graduates are strongly encouraged to limit their guests to four friends or family members. The afternoon time slot for graduation was chosen to allow friends and family ample time during early evening hours for a post ceremony celebration.

How long does the ceremony last?

The ceremony typically last about one hour and 45 minutes. All graduates are expected to remain seated with their college classmates for the entire program.

How do I get a cap and gown for the ceremony?

Caps, gowns, tassels and cords can be purchased from the BookStore prior to graduation.

What if I already own a cap and gown?

Graduates who already own an all-black cap and gown may wear those during the ceremony. Tassels may be purchased from The BookStore.

What does it mean to be graduating with honors?

Students who are receiving a degree or diploma and who have a cumulative 4.0 GPA on their academic record at the beginning of their final semester will be recognized in the commencement program. These students will receive The President's Award for Outstanding Scholastic Achievement. These students will be considered as graduating with honors and may wear a gold cord.

Students who are receiving a degree or diploma and who have a cumulative 3.50 to 3.99 GPA on their academic record at the beginning of their final semester will be recognized in the commencement program. These students will be considered as graduating with honors and may wear a silver cord.

Honor cords can be purchased from The BookStore. Your school ID is required to purchase the honor cords.

Are diplomas presented at the commencement ceremony?

You will receive a mock diploma at graduation. Your official diploma will be mailed to you after grades are finalized and the Office of Records and Registration confirms your graduation. Diplomas are mailed out approximately three to five weeks after graduation.

What if a graduate or a guest needs special assistance to participate or attend the ceremony?

Graduates should contact the Commencement Coordinator Missy Majerus (320 308-5922) to communicate their individual needs. All facilities are accessible. A sign-language interpreter is on stage during the ceremony.

What parking is available?

The ceremony takes place in downtown St. Cloud during the regular work week. A number of ramps and surface lots are available near the Civic Center, however, graduates and their guests are encouraged to park at St. Cloud Technical & Community College and utilize the free motor coach shuttle to and from the Civic Center. The shuttles will begin running at 11:30 AM from Door 4 and 5 at St. Cloud Technical & Community College's Northway Building.

Can I prevent my name from appearing in the commencement program?
