Are you wondering how classes are going to look this fall? Maybe you’re holding off on registering for classes until you know if you’ll be able to take classes from home? Not sure what’s going to happen with your hands-on program classes, like Carpentry or Auto Body?
Here’s what we know about this fall at SCTCC.
First and foremost, SCTCC will be open! Students will be able to take classes and work toward a degree, that crucial first step to a new career. For those who are thinking about going back to college – there is no better time to get started! Tuition for Fall 2020 is frozen, and there are so many scholarships available.
As far as classes, many will be offered in an asynchronous online or synchronous online format. Synchronous online format means you will attend an online class with your classmates, like you would face to face, but via an online meeting. An asynchronous online class doesn’t have these regular online class meetings.
For classes that have a lab or need face-to-face learning, we will be offering those on campus this fall, but we are making sure that we follow social distancing and other safety measures. This may include rearranging classrooms or lab spaces so desks are 6’ apart, placing plexiglass separators between work stations, or being online when possible and on campus when needed.
The SCTCC maintenance staff will be working to make sure that everything is disinfected and cleaned according to CDC and Minnesota Dept. of Health (MDH) guidelines. In addition, everyone who is on campus will be required to wear a mask. Please bring yours with when you come to campus.
Of course, we will need to be flexible. If a student or instructor tests positive for coronavirus, or if the virus comes back at levels that prompt another stay-at-home order, everyone will need to be able to respond as needed. Ultimately, we make sure that we follow the CDC and MDH guidelines along with direction from our Minnesota State system office.
Whether you’re returning for your second or third year, or starting your first year, just know that SCTCC is here to support you. All the regular student services will be available, even if they may be in a different format.
The most important part about classes this fall is to make sure you stay informed. This means checking your SCTCC email, checking D2L announcements, and communicating with your instructors.
We look forward to seeing you either in person or online this fall! We know that you’re ready to start to get back to normal, and we’re making things as normal as possible. That starts with making sure you get an education that sets you on the path to the career you want.
