Once again, St. Cloud Technical & Community College is positioned as a great place for veterans to get their degrees. The Military Times released its “Best for Vets: College” 2019 rankings, and SCTCC is seventh on the list.
The annual, nationwide list is compiled after colleges take part in a detailed survey for a chance to be recognized in the publication’s rankings. The Military Times also analyzes federal data and compares key metrics from the Education Dept., Veterans Affairs Dept. and Defense Dept. in choosing which schools are best for veterans looking to further their education. Institutions are evaluated in five categories, listed from most to least important: culture, student support, academic outcomes/quality, academic policies and cost/financial aid.
The list focuses on helping veterans find schools that provide small classes, individual help and degrees they can earn quickly that will result in high-paying jobs. SCTCC received four stars in GI Bill gap coverage, which helped SCTCC maintain a high ranking this year.
“This year we have a very active student veteran group that is doing an amazing job of connecting with fellow veterans all over campus and the community. They are actively supported through SCTCC’s faculty and staff and the continual campus wide efforts to be an inclusive institution that supports all types of students, including our military members, families and student veterans,” said Student Veterans of America advisor, Heidi Smith. “President Cheek has reaffirmed SCTCC’s commitment to student veterans on our campus and has attended one of our first Student Veterans of America meetings to ensure our veterans’ voices are being heard.”
More than 180 military veterans are currently enrolled at SCTCC. Veterans who are interested in enrolling should contact Anita Baugh at 320-308-5936 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
