St. Cloud Technical & Community College (SCTCC) is excited to announce the Grand Opening of its Multicultural Center on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 12:30 p.m.

The Grand Opening will be livestreamed via YouTube and Facebook from its location in SCTCC’s Northway Building room 1-313. The program includes remarks from SCTCC President Annesa Cheek, Ed.D., an acknowledgment of founding and entertainment.

“The Multicultural Center was birthed from the initial input of a small contingent of faculty who recognized a void on campus," said Pres. Cheek. “Our community, our student and our employee demographics are changing, and it is important to us that each and every person is seen, valued, and heard here at SCTCC.”  She continued, “This is what contributes to building our ever-continuous learning environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging to thrive toward the success they aspire to achieve – in education and in life – regardless of race, class, ethnicity, nationality and gender.”

Since 2016, the voices of several SCTCC employees have been involved in the creation and completion of the Multicultural Center, and advocates for the center will be recognized at the Grand Opening.

Debra Leigh, Vice President of Cultural Fluency, Equity and Inclusion, has stewarded the establishment of the Multicultural Center. “Of the new on-campus space for students”, she said, “the Multicultural Center is a vessel for hopes and aspirations that will shape students, faculty and staff for many years to come and a promise to forge ahead in the important work of infusing equity into the college’s practices, policies and initiatives.”
