Criminal Background Check for Health Program Students

Any individual who has direct contact with patients/residents at health care facilities licensed by the Minnesota Department of Health must have a criminal background study completed. An arrest, criminal charge, or criminal conviction may prevent employment in your chosen field of study. For a list of disqualifying crimes visit MN State Statue, Sec. 245C.15. Questions may be directed to: Minnesota Department of Human Services, DHS Background Studies Unit, 651-431-6620 or dhs.awbackgroundstudy@state.mn.us .

Criminal background studies are completed annually to ensure student eligibility for participation in program clinical experiences. Students who do not pass the background study are both unable to participate in clinical experiences and ineligible to continue in the academic program.
